I’ve been intrigued by the effects of tart cherries since researchers documented they have the “highest anti-inflammatory content of any food.” I’ve since experimented with them myself and now drink tart cherry juice before bed during high-volume training periods as I’ve found it helps speed recovery. When I began developing an Enduro Bites brownie flavor, tart cherries were an obvious choice since they compliment the cocoa flavor so well.
Why brownie Enduro Bites in the first place? The initial idea came about because I love the taste of brownies, but including high-quality cocoa powder also lets us deliver cocoa flavonoids without the risk of having dark chocolate melt in summer heat. These flavonoids have been shown to help process nitric oxide and thus improve blood flow, lower blood pressure, and improve heart health.
As with other Enduro Bites flavors, each ingredient is carefully chosen for a specific purpose and combined into a great-tasting, bite-sized food that’s easy to eat and digest during endurance training and racing. We use simple, recognizable, real-food ingredients that are all natural, non-GMO, and free of common allergens (including nuts, soy, gluten, and dairy). We leave out the fillers, added sugars, and all other unnecessary ingredients to create a real-food alternative to glorified candy and granola bars masquerading as sports nutrition. Most importantly, they are also handcrafted in small-batches in our Colorado Springs kitchen and shipped daily for maximum freshness because fresh food tastes better.
It seems like everyone is releasing their own energy bar lately, but there doesn’t seem to be much thought about how these products affect performance. Enduro Bites are the exception. We go this extra distance because taste and performance go hand-in-hand. The best performing nutrition won’t get consumed as often as it should if you don’t enjoy its taste, and nutrition doesn’t do you any good if it stays in your pack or pocket.
